The New Galerie is opening in New York in a new district of galleries in Hell’s Kitchen, a space on the 3rd floor of the Film Center Building, 630 Ninth Avenue between 44th and 45th Street. The New Galerie is joining the Balice Hertling & Lewis Gallery installed in the same building for a year. Collaboration developed on an international level for the last four years by the New Galerie has led to the opening of a space in New York.
The New York Gallery is a commercial gallery. Its organization, existence and projects are in common with the New Galerie. However, the New York Gallery has a specific function and does not represent any artists in the United States. Rather than being a branch of the of the New Galerie, the New York Gallery favors invitations and the convergence of structures and ways of doing things. Here project formats and event temporality are flexible.
Ever since its inception in 2009, its collaborative hosting in the space of the Galerie de France, and its successive invitations to independent curators, the New Galerie has continued its program in the same direction, even to the point of inviting an art center - Raw Material Company (Senegal) – to move to the gallery and to implement its activities there.
With the opening of this space in New York, the New Galerie expands its open approach, consolidates its program animated by collaboration projects, and confirms its prioritizing of horizontal over vertical action. The New York Gallery is the incarnation of the expanded work group and of the affinities which constitute the New Galerie.
